Purpose of this forum, and the spam

Sanyu has suggested certain restrictions to be imposed on this forum.

Before we come to those restrictions, let's talk about the purpose of this forum first...

Kupika.net was born during the migration of Kupika.com.
Its main purpose was to accommodate the homeless Kupika members during the move.
But not long after the inception, I realized that this forum can complement Kupika.com.

Thus Kupika.net became the official forum of Kupika.

Now, the content of the forum.
Kupika.net is another media/place for Kupika members to express their thoughts, opinion, etc. or maybe just as a recreational place to have fun. There are many different people with different purposes. Therefore, we have different boards for different purposes.

In Kupika.com, some people draw oekakis daily but they rarely write diaries. Other people write diaries everyday but never draw any oekakis. Some other people just focus on their KupiPages. Some only post Personal Ads and wait for responses. Some are active in Clubs. And so on. (you get the idea)

Take this analogy to kupika.net -- here we have people who only participate in spam games. Some other people are only interested in more serious topics. Some only hang out in the Arts section. And so on.

So what's the problem?

I purposely chose the name Spam Land because I knew it *will* be filled with spam.
(by "spam", I mean something that is posted just for fun, not blatant spam like omg lol sup)

Some people come here to have fun, and restricting their activities (e.g. maximum 3 active games at a time, maximum number of pages, etc) will do no good.

Basically the post must be relevant with the topic.
Taking the "Hello Kupika" board as an example, we can say the posts should have some relations to the person being introduced. The idea is to welcome the person into our community. So topics about the latest Naruto episodes don't belong in this board.

This is not an issue of limiting maximum number of pages --
but rather, keeping the post on-topic and serving the purpose of the board.

As long as the posts are on-topic, it is perfectly OK to have a thread with 100s number of pages.

However, there is an obvious drawback to this approach:
junk topic will generate junk posts and clutter the forum.
(I believe this is Sanyu's main concern)

Therefore, junk topics should not be allowed. For example, a thread which only content is "Hi, lets start a game, post any random number between 1 and 99999999" should not be allowed.
But quality spam games such as "Corrupted Wishing Game" could run forever until people are bored with it.

The idea is to prevent such junk topics/posts to happen in the first place.
As long as the games are quality, people like them and participate, then why not?

If the topic is not welcomed by the community, then no one will reply and it will just be moved down the Topic List fast (not cluttering the list).

Sanyu: if you think spam games are making conflicts, please give some examples, why do you think they are conflicts, and what should be done. I have already addressed your "maximum pages" or "maximum topics" approach in the above post -- now waiting for your response.

And I am sorry for the "contradiction" :

I do, and I'm glad you're drafting rules and such. (I felt so insecure without them :-X)
General boards have a wide, wide variety of people on them, which leaves more room for disagreements. I'm trying to prevent disagreements from being dramatized (which is why I split things out of topics and lock them. I also do that because people don't read), especially since most our members came from kupika where you have your own profile and are allowed to "kick someone off" - It's your space - but you can't do that in a forum. People need to be really careful about what they say in public sometimes, and read/lurk moar. :P
