Lightbulb Just Thinking....

As a mod, I often get reports that are just plain stupid, but about a month ago, I got one that really made me think. It said, "Hey, this dude has nudity on his profile, can you please ban him?" she posted a screenshot of it, it was a picture of the painting featuring God and Adam (can't think of the title). As you know by common sense, nudity wasn't a bad thing back in the time it was painted. She thought that anything with nudity in it would be porn, and porn is an insta ban. Adam's...private areas are uncovered. After explaining this to her, she cooled down, but after a month of contemplation, I've decided to post it on here, so others could put in their two cents on it.

Honestly, I enjoy classical art and thinks that it is perfectly acceptable to show it on here, as long as it doesn't brake the plagiarism rule.

It's not porn, so I don't think that should be banned. The parts of the lower half are showing but as long as they are not doing anything else in the photo I wouldn't make it porn. I would make it nudity which is different. It may just mean that the guy is religious or something and likes to have pictures like that on his/her profile. The person may actually have posted it thinking it was porn on their profile. You can never be sure about that.

Your poll confuses me. I went to say "no it doesn't break the handbook" but.. if I say no, I'm saying it's offensive lol.

But no, the handbook doesn't disallow nudity. It specifically disallows porn. Since the intent of classical art is not to get someone's rocks off, I don't feel it's in violation.

I agree with Sanyu on your poll thing. Doesn't make since now that I think about it.

Please don't keep calling yourself a grammar nazi if you're going to continue using 'since' instead of 'sense'. You can use it wrong if you want but don't say you're a grammar nazi lol.

I don't consider it as a violation of the Handbook. As long at it's not showing the genitals/nudity in an inappropriate approach, then it's fine. And as stated above, it's not porn, technically speaking.

To end any debate before it starts.
Photography:

Sexually suggestive with nudity -> Ban
Nudity -> If art, obviously,-> okay.
Nudity -> Not art -> Ban
Naked children -> Ban -> I'd personally report it to Hina too, if its too bad.

Art -> Not porn. -> Okay
Art Oekaki's -> Not porn -> Okay
Art Oekakis with offense titles directed at somebody -> Porn -> Ban
Awful drawn Oekakis with offensice titles directed at somebody -> Porn -> Ban
Hentai -> Ban

I could be annoying and say "but what is art?", but I think when you see it you know, so I'm happy with that.

Technically what we really ban for is nudity, correct? So we normally just take down images that consist of erotica-like content i.e. - nude posing. That can be art too, depending on how it's looked at. If it looks like it's a still from a porn video, then that's we think to be inappropriate and worthy of removing. It also works if it's a grainy webcam photo or a self-photo in general. We can tell it apart from art and we are therefore able to warn/ban because we just know it's inappropriate and unarguable.

Now paintings on another hand can also be interpreted as "porn" - as there are very sexual paintings that exist that would be too much for Kupika. Paintings however that are noticeably artistic - meaning, no sexual intention - I believe is just fine for Kupika.

I don't know how to handle it to be honest, so don't attack me anyone for saying "oh but it has nudity, it must be banned, etc, etc". Maybe there should be profile options which warn for mature themes maybe (nude paintings for example?) which warn the users that they might not like the content or agree with it, therefore they're entering at their own risk.

But yeah. Fine line between paintings and porn/ban-worthy stuff. And trust me, if the plagiarism rule really applied to anything. We would have nothing on the site, since people breach copyrights all the time by using images found online.
