Default Naming children?

It was in the news that a judge in New Zealand changed a girl's name - her parents had called her 'Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii'. However, the name 'Number 16 Bus Shelter' had been allowed.

Do you think the parents should be allowed to name their baby anything? Or that names like that should not be allowed? Maybe you think there should be an extensive list of names and parents have to choose one of them, like in Denmark. (In Denmark they have to choose from around 7, 000 approved names, but can make an appeal if the name they want is not on the list).

Personally, I think option 2 is best. Although I am tempted to choose 3 to stop the stupid trend of parents inventing new spellings of names. What do you guys think?

First I clicked option 1 but then I read your post so I chose 2 except I disagree for the last part on option 2;

"But stop offensive or strange names"

I think strange names should be allowed, what's wrong with strange? I like strange! I feel sorry for the people of Denmark cos, what if they don't like any of the names? Or what if they look at the first 100, they get bored and they don't feel like looking at the whole list? Then again, it would make it easier instead of going:

"Uh.. Umm... I don't know"

all the time. I think, that option 4 is good:

"Parents should be able to decide what they want to name their child but first, they should present the name to the government to be approved of and if it isn't approved then a lit of similar names should be given to the parents".

Yeah?

Hmm..the topic of bad baby names has interested me for a while now. I've read many blogs and sites about it. One couple called their baby 'Monoxide Devan'. Another, 'De'Avazhae Lyfe'. Yes, with an apostrophe in the middle.
{these were found on turabiannights.blogspot.com}

I think that kind of name is just awful. ;;

:O Woah. Yeah, I guess it'll make the kid feel wierd and sad when the other kids pick on them. I've heard of strange names too, like, M.T. Head. My sister said that there's someone actually named that.

Tell me if you don't get it.

I chose the second option. Government can stop the parents from giving stupid and offensive names.

That's all I have ta say.

There's a fourth option? I thought there were only 3.

I voted for "The government should allow freedom to name, but stop offensive or very strange names." Beacuse you sould name you own child then the goverment to give you a list.
Like I would mabe name my son Yuki or mabe Yuri. Or any other name. But, there are sometimes offensive names so. I think that is the best choice out of all the three.
I might name them japanese names... but don't know yet. xD
