I don't think popularity is important. I guess its nice but I think you can be popular in a more subtle way than having loads of close friends. I think most people are more popular then they realise ;D

well to me popularity means nothing its what freinds you have if people dont like you fine by me just stick to your freinds and you cant go wrong i wouldent say im popular yet i think my lifes great i have good freinds and thats what matters

popularity itself isn't a bad thing. if a person is popular it usually is for a good reason, namely that there is something about them that people find attractive (whatever it may be). of course, someone can be "popular" for some really dumb reasons, the class clown is usually popular, so are villains sometimes.

one thing thats hard to understand is that being popular doesn't necessarily have anything to do with how awesome the person is. for example i know many many amazing people on kupika and for the life of me, i dont understand why they dont have a ton of friends and aren't considered "popular." sometimes its just how things are and sometimes its about whether the person wants to reach out and gather more friends and admirers ...some amazing people don't, they prefer only to have a few close friends and thats all.

as for problems with popularity...

i think some immature people who are popular may take it for granted and not treat others well, unfortunately, such behavior doesn't always result in their losing popularity

another problem is when a person who isn't very popular is so focused on trying to become popular that they lose a sense of who they really are. Sometimes they try and imitate certain persons they see as popular even when what they are doing isn't natural to them. Sometimes, they forget about the true friends that have stood by them and try to form bonds with people who dont care about them, and who may even abuse them or use them in some way.

if a person wants to be popular i think they just should try and practice the golden rule, that they should try and take a real genuine interest in others, and they should try and be happy, friendly, and someoen that people want to be around...like i say in my essay about Chatting 101

Kupika is like a party. and no one likes to hang around people at a party that are moping or demanding to be entertained by saying "im bored" etc.

but when it all comes down to it having a number of really good friends is what its all about. if you have some real good freinds your mail box will be full, your pages will be commented and youll feel your time on kupika is rewarding and interesting...its a lot better to be well-liked by a few then to be well-known by many, so whether one is popular or not they ought to strive for and not worry about whether or not they are popular

Popularity and acceptance are really different. I don't think people want to be popular per se (sans some people who obviously put themselves out to be accepted by CERTAIN people, who are probably "popular"/in high demand), they just don't want to be picked on and they want to be able to live their lives exercising their right to freedom. Whether this is their interests not being frowned upon, or being able to say something without being bullied, or the ability to talk to someone in particular without being laughed at due to the social food chain, or even to just walk around without drawing negative attention. Everyone wants to be accepted at least a little bit. Nobody wants every single person in their life to kick them down at every turn of a corner.
