Default Make-up: Key to Success or Door to Hell?

After reading a lot of topics, I just felt like making a topic asking a question that's been nagging my brain a lot lately.

So, recently, I've started wearing make-up. I'm 12, turning 13 this year. I really only wanted to try it because... Okay, I'm admitting it now. I'm one of those people that want to fit in and well, a 'friend' just told me how gorgeous I'd look if I put make-up on. So I tried using eyeliner. Ditched the mascara cos it just looked so.... Well, let's just say it screams Imonpot when I wear it.

Okay, the eyeliner did make me look way more alert (and slightly pretty, too) and I did get noticed more but my family and some other people thought it made me look less innocent.

I also remember doing a debate about make-up in Gr 6 and the opposing side had a lot of good points too (It ruins your face, men get overly attracted to you which leads to rape, Could jab yourself in the eye, etc) . But then again, there is the other hand which is to feel accepted and be happy.

To wear or not to wear? That is the question. And why?

Key to success - no.

Door to hell - more like WHAT THE HELL. No. :|

It ruins your face - no, take it off at night. Light make-up such as eyeliner will not ruin your face, only if you cake it in foundation every day will your face be 'ruined' (and even then the effects will be mild - you may get spots because your pores are blocked).

Men get overly attracted to you which leads to rape - LOLWUT. Seriously? Being a 17 year old wearer of light make-up I'm pleased to report that I have not as yet been raped. Why would men being overly attracted to you even lead to rape? Rape is about power, a guy doesn't see a woman and think, 'Oh, nice eyeliner, that's hot - IT'S RAPIN' TIME!'

JUST NO. REALLY.

Could jab yourself in the eye - wut? Technically you could suffocate on your clothes but you still wear them. Though I condede, maybe this is a reason not to wear make-up: if you lack the ability to apply it without harming yourself, you probably can't apply it well and look laughably horrible.

to feel accepted - urgh. This is a sucky reason to do anything.

and be happy - Good reason.
~~~
In conclusion: if you've reached puberty and you want to wear it for you, then wear it. If you're a kid and you haven't reached puberty that's...kind of creepy/disturbing. Well, a lot creepy. But it's at your parents' discretion at that age I guess.
If you want to wear it to fit in, then it's not worth it and it will become a hassle. For example, many notice on the rare occasions I wear no eye make-up, because I usually do (kind of like someone who wears glasses all the time taking them off is weird.) I don't mind having to keep wearing it to not look strange/different, because I much prefer my eyes made-up to emphasise them (my best feature ). But if I did it to seem 'cool' or 'belong' then it would be a total chore and I'd have to keep up with trends etc. Just not worth it.
Not to wear.
It's useless, in my opinion, really. If you're accepted more with it, then you're being accepted by the wrong people. It also does ruin your face, if you wear too much of it.
I also don't see how it makes you feel happy. I mean, if it's not the actual you that's pretty, why feel okay with it? It also causes you to feel less pretty without it, which isn't a good thing.
I say lipstick, lipgloss, whatever it's called, is okay on special occasions, not many others, though...
It's also kinda like plastic surgery, without perminant change. (though it can make changes... ) Plastic surgery is well... not actually you. Would you rather work off all the weight and be healthy, or suck out all the weight and stay unhealthy just look healthy? Kinda like choosing between those two.
So I assume you go out of the house wearing a sack rather than clothes that look good.
Excuuse me?! Are you making fun of my choice of words for the title? :O
And yeahh, I did laugh at the last two but hey, I didn't come up with them. (Actually I came up with one of them since I was on the opposing side, which kinda makes me sound like a hypocrite now)
Wait, huh? Seeing as everyone has different opinions, I'll let this one slide. e____e Jokes. But, I don't know. I'm a plastic bitch. Actually strike that, too. I've been in this position where I'm the person that everyone doesn't like and makes fun of and I guess I still haven't gone over that. So I guess I'm being all paranoid and trying not to get to that again. -shrug-
And hey, you SO can jab yourself in the eye. It'll just BURRNNNandyoumightgoblindanddie.
Honestly, I blame puberty (and myself, don't worry). Me and my sister both agree that ever since we hit puberty we've been way too physically conscious. I mean, don't you remember when it was elementary and everyone didn't care what you wore or whatever.
D: That's the problem. It seems like everyone in my class accept like that.
It also causes you to feel less pretty without it, which isn't a good thing.
:O You're right. Yeahhh. Geez, why didn't I notice that before...! (youreadumbassan)
Selphie has no make-up on. She feels like she looks average.
She puts make-up on. She feels pretty.
She takes it off. She feels like she looks average.
I don't see how that's making someone feel less pretty. It's making them feel the same as before.
Makeup is like any other form of art to me: you have to learn to do it properly. Take precautions with your skin if you think it's bad for it, use non-oil based makeup and cleansers, etc; they won't clog your pores.
I don't think wearing makeup is being fake or plastic, only if you cake it on and use it to change your entire look instead of enhance it. I believe those who see makeup as deceiving have an unrealistic outlook on the girl next door - no, she probably doesn't have IRL photoshopped skin, if she does it's probably makeup, and she probably knows how to use it. I'd sooner praise someone for such knowledge and skill than scorn them for being someone they are not.
It's a form of self-expression, just like clothing, hair, jewellery, the way we speak and present ourselves, the way we type. I know that some girls who weren't happy with some of their natural flaws (take for example... wrinkles I guess, or bags under the eyes) and took the time and energy to try routines, stuff up a million times but prevail and keep learning and honing their technique would scorn someone who was unhappy with their flaws but didn't take any steps to make themselves happier, at least so much that they don't dwell on it and become paranoid when they're out and about. Some people like attention :P
If you're born with something you don't like, why not use things like this to your advantage? It's a hellovalot cheaper than plastic surgery! And a talent you might even be able to use later, depending on where you choose to direct your life or who you choose to associate with (I'm thinking theatre here specifically, or if you're into fashion then catwalk, makeup artist, man I wish I could be one of those but I SUCK at applying makeup *sigh*).
edit to add: I'm not saying there are no downsides to wearing makeup D: Definitely a feeling if reliance if you wear it everyday and refuse to be seen without it.. I used to be that way with eyeliner XD I do look better with eyeliner, but I hardly wear it anymore, so I feel OK without it too :3 balance is good.
...I'm 14 turning 15 soon but I haven't applied make-up yet. (Except for lipstick...does it count? XD) And I don't know how to apply it.
For me, it's okay to wear make-up on special occasions or gatherings. (This is just my opinion but I also think middle schoolers like me shouldn't wear it. XD It's not cool or anything.) It's also not nice if someone plasters TOO MUCH MAKE-UP on their face, it's scary. >_<
Rrrrrright, and my post has once again didn't make any sense. :/
I'm quite scared that I'm 15 - 16 this year - and I don't wear eyeliner but a 12 year old does. Hmmm, that screams back to front at me. (:
The only thing I'd say is wear it because you want to wear not because you feel as if you have to "fit in", I didn't start wearing make-up on a daily bais until I was 14. & now I just wear face powder + mascara + lip plummer.
Like people have said it only ruins your face if you don't take it off properly or if you don't use the right make-up for your face, for example I have to be careful because of eczema. @__@
I also haven't be raped by any men the last time I checked, although I can see where this is coming from. Loads of 13 year olds at my school - or ex-school, whatever - cover themselves in make-up and then go drinking (alcohol) so they kind of open themselves up to rape, you should be okay as long as you don't do this. Plus, if you did do this you would get my friends and me shouting "YOU'VE BE TANGOED" at you because this is what we do to the girls at school, I mean they're ORANGE?!
I've only poked myself in the eye once and that was when I was on the schoolbus and we went over a speed bump. (:
It's up for, but don't do it to "fit in" because that's a little bit silly.
